  3. A parable is a story, usually short and simple, that illustrates a lesson. It is usually seen in sacred text, which means that they are used a lot in religious teachings. An example of this would be "The Flood". This is a parable because God teaches man a lesson by destroying the world, and only letting people who were grateful live so they could recreate a better world. So Noah, the one God chose, built an ark that he, his family, and two of each animal lived on until the flood was over and the water was gone. God showed them that they were what he wanted from man.

Parables are also very short. Parable of the Prodigal Son was only two pages and many other Parables were very short as well.

  7. A parable is a small story that usually shows a lesson. It has a spiritual or religious views behind it. In the stories we have read it has an important lesson, and it has a religious backround on it. The lord in these stories usually do something to prove that they are there. For example, the Flood. The man stayed loyal to God, and God spared him and his family from the flood. Good things can happen if you stay loyal to what you believe in.

  8. A parable is a very short and simple story that teaches a religious or a moral lesson. Parables function on both a literal and metaphorical level, describing details and scenarios from everyday life while teaching a deeper lesson. The Parable of the Prodigal Son is an example of a parable. Even though it's only like two pages, a lesson is taught through it. You get the idea of what a parable is while reading it.

  9. a short story or passage used to produce a morale lesson in the form of a metaphor . Each parable will change in culture since every culture may hold different things to a higher value and help shape the face of that culture by teaching the lesson or spiritual guide that is desired to get across

  10. A parable is a story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. Parables are used to teach lessons to anyone, but mostly younger people. They can also have a religious meaning. For example, in the Prodigal Son, the youngest takes all of his belongings he is owed by his father and moves out. After a short time he has nothing left and is struggling to find food. He returns to his father and again has everything he could ever want. His adventure taught him that he should never walk out on something great, and that you don't know what you got until its gone.

  12. A parable is usually a story with from something religious. It teaches you morals about how to live your life. The characters in it arent always 'correct' when it comes to the characteristics given to them. The moral to these stories arent always right in front of your face and you might have to think about it. These stories are older and sometimes hard to understand. You have to really think about the meaning of them.

A parable is a story which illustrates instructive principles or lessons. A parable will sketch a setting, describe an action, and show the results. A parable will reveal the universal truth. Usually parables will have an unspoken meaning which is up to the reader to interpret. In "The Flood" it teaches the lesson of being a good person. God was grieved over the fact that his creations were wicked, and cleanses the Earth by sending a flood, but he sees how good Noah is, and spares him and his family. This parable is basically saying that bad things will happen to those who are bad, but if you are good, you will benefit.

  22. A parable is a short story that teaches lessons or morals. They are commonly found in religious tales so that it can simplify the teachings of that religion or culture. An example of this is "The Flood", the main character of Noah teaches the meaning of being a good person and having your faith in god. Noah, his relatives, and the various animals were the only ones saved during the flood because god gave Noah a chance for survival for his faith and good deeds. This can be incorporated into any persons life. This particular parable teaches the lesson on being a good person.

  23. A parable is a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson. Some examples of parables are in "The Flood" which is when god told Noah that he is going to destroy the earth because of all the evil in the world. So in order for Noah to avoid being killed by god's destruction Noah had to build a ark and bring two of every animal with him for 40 days and 40 nights then at the end of that the storm will be cleared and it will be safe. However Noah doesn't completely trust this so he sends a raven and a dove to look and see, only the dove came back and doves are known for symbolizing peace and love.

A parable is a bunch of short stories that form one big one. For example, the bible is a parable. They also teach moral lessons to the person who reads them. "The Flood", for instance, is about God directing Noah to rebirth the world by starting over. Noah had two of every animal and once the flood was over, he had to create new species and grow the populations of the animals. As you can see, parables are life leasons.

Parables function on both a literal and metaphorical level, describing details and scenarios from everyday life while teaching a deeper lesson. A great example of a parable that we've read this week is, "The Flood". In this story, God teaches a lesson of obedience and the repercussions of misconduct. Though this is never stated, readers get the idea when God destroys everything except things among the ark because of Moses's good behavior. Parables can get very deep in concept.
