    1. I pray this works and Miss Powers can see it. Once again, I am not allowed to post on this blog so I'll try this now. They are coming back from helping shovel snow on the railroad in the begining of chapter 8. Brinker then charges in the room the next morning and mentions enlisting in the army. This sort of angers finny and he goes to take a shower. Gene continues training throughout the chapter. Leper enlists in the ski troopers in chapter nine, as well as the winter carnival is made up by finny. At the end of the chapter, gene gets a telegram from Leper saying he should come visit. When Gene goes to visit, he finds Leper shaken and stressed out. He was scared of the army and was going to be discharged as insane. They had lunch after Gene pushed Leper out of chair for talking about finny. He storms out after an outburst at the table while Leper is telling his story of his service time.

  2. The most important things that happened in chapters 10-12 are gene, and finnys' friendship was put through through tests. Funny broke his leg, and was told he couldn't play sports anymore. Gene was the reason that finny couldn't do the one thing that he was most passionate about. Gene has agreed that be would be involved in sports with the memory of finny. Unfortunately, tiny died, and I know gene feels 100% guilty for his best friends' death.

  11. Chapter 10: Upon receiving the telegram from Leper, Gene immediately goes on a trip to visit Leper at his home in New Hampshire. There he finds out the Leper has gone crazy and was almost discharged from the army for insanity. During his stay, Leper accuses Gene for causing the accident on the tree. Gene is outraged by his remark and knocks his chair over, for which later Leper invites him for lunch out of guilt. they go for a walk together afterwards, and Leper begins telling Gene about his odd hallucinations at the army where officer's faces turn into women's faces and soldiers carrying detached limbs. At last, Gene cannot stand to listen to him and runs away.
Chapte 11: Gene returns to Devon, only wanting to see Finny. He finds him playing snowball with a group of other boys. He hesitates to tell Finny about Leper, and relunctantly joins the snowball fight, which later becomes a fight toward Finny only. After they go back to their room, Brinker comes in and asks about Leper. Gene vaguely reponds that Leper has gone crazy because of the war and deserted the army. Brinker complains about how the war has already turned two people into "sidelined", and Gene denies, followed by Finny's ironic agreement. Gene has now finally believed that the war is real. That evening, Brinker with a group of boys grab Gene and Finny to the assembly hall to investigate the accident that caused Finny's broken leg. Finny at first carelessly responds to the questions, saying he fell becuase he lost his balance and that he cannot remembe what happened, and tries to protect Gene from being accused. But suddenly he remembers that they were going to do a double jump. Brinker wishes that Leper was there for he saw everything, which now Finny says that he saw him earlier in the offcie. Then Leper is brought in, oddly confident and composed, and tells them that one person shake the other one off. Finny suddenly breaks down and runs away out of the room, only heard by later that he falls down the marble stairs.
Chapter 12: The boys right away get the wrestling coach and the doctor's help and they lift Finny together on a chair and send him to the infirmary. The doctor tells Gene that is it Finny's broken leg again. AFter the boys are gone, Gene hides in the bush outside the infirmary, jumping to see what happens and tries to hear their conversation. After the ligth is put out, Gene climbs on the window which is heard by Finny. Finny angrily struggles on the bed and falls, accusing him for coming to break something esle in him. Gene doesn't help him to get back to the bed buy says sorry and then leaves. He wanders around the campus and sleeps in the gym. The next morning when he goes back to his dormitory he finds a note from the doctor telling him to bring some clothes to Finny. He does so and Finny appears to be oddly calm. He starts breaking down on how he had written to every army trying to be enlisted but none would do that for him because of his leg, and that's the reason that he has been denying the war. Finny bursts into tears demanding Gene to tell him that he did that out of some crazy impulse, not out of a deep feeling against Finny. The doctors doesn't do the surgery succesfully and Finny dies because of the marrow that stopped his heart. Gene hears that after his long day at school and doesn't cry a bit, for he feels that it is in some way his own death, his own funeral.

Gene goes to meet with his friend leper. Gene returns to Devon from Leper’s house and finds Finny in the midst of a snowball fight. Gene tells him that Leper has changed dramatically and that he has deserted the army. Gene realizes that this pair includes Finny and tries to gloss over the implication by saying that there is no war, hoping he can distract Finny by getting him to elaborate upon his conspiracy theory.. Gene tells himself that Leper is crazy and that even if his testimony implicates Gene, no one will ever accept it. The boys return with Leper, who seems strangely confident and composed.

  15. Leper runs away from the army because he'd rather escape then be discharged for being insane. Finny breaks his leg on the stairs and is sent to Dr.Stanpole's house to be treated. Gene sneaks off and looks through the window to see how finny is ding. When finny is alone gene goes through the window to talk to him and he apologizes and finny accepts it and tells him how he has been saying the war was made up cause in reality he couldn't go into the army. With the broken leg no armies would allow him to join them. Later on gene leaves and returns later on and the doctor comes out and tells gene the horrible news. The news is that Finny had died when his leg was being put back in place because some bone marrow escaped from his bones, got into his blood and went to his heart then died. When gene finds out he is upset but he does not cry, and when he is being berried he still doesn't cry and he states that he didn't cry cause it was like he was at his own funeral and you would not cry at your own funeral.

  19. In Chapter 10 Gene immediately sets out for Leper’s “Christmas location,” meaning his home in Vermont. He takes a train and then a bus through the barren New England landscape and arrives in Leper’s town early the next morning. He walks the rest of the way through the snow to Leper’s house. All the while he refuses to admit to himself that Leper has deserted the army; he tries to convince himself that by “escape,” Leper has meant an escape from spies. In Chapter 11 Gene returns to Devon from Leper’s house and finds Finny in the midst of a snowball fight, which he has organized. Gene hesitates to join the fight but Finny draws him in. Gene asks Finny, who now uses a walking cast, if he is allowed to participate in such strenuous activities. Finny replies that he thinks he can feel his bones getting better. He adds that bones are often stronger in the places where they have once broken. in chapter 12 Gene’s reflections on Finny’s death suggest that, whether or not the friends’ intense bond actually causes Finny’s death, the bond between them will last beyond death. In the moment of Finny’s passing, the boys are symbolically still a part of each other. Gene himself recognizes this fact, as evident from his remark that Finny’s funeral feels like his own. In a sense, the funeral is his own. Gene is merged with Finny to so great an extent that it is difficult to imagine one boy continuing to exist without the other.
